Children’s program
Taekwondo classes for kids, ages 7 to 12
Classes are grouped by belt, so a beginner trains with beginners. Each class is 45 minutes, on weekday evenings at all three schools and Saturday mornings in Milton.

The program
What your child learns
Every level of the program works on the same three things, and each one gets harder as a student moves up.
-
Poomse
The World Taekwondo Taegeuk patterns, learned in order from the first beginner pattern to the advanced ones, then the black belt patterns.
-
Sparring
Beginners learn the rules and drills without contact. Intermediate students spar with protective equipment and are introduced to competitions. From red belt, students train full-contact Olympic-style sparring.
-
Curriculum
Kicking and punching combinations, one-step sparring, self-defence and footwork, building on what was learned at the level before.
Belts
From white belt to black belt
Students move up through the coloured belts, grouped into three levels. The class your child joins depends on the belt they have earned.

Beginner
For students with no martial arts experience: basic kicking combinations, no-contact sparring drills, self-defence and the beginner patterns.
Intermediate
For students with experience: sparring with equipment, competitions, harder combinations and the intermediate patterns.
Advanced
Red belts and up, including black belts: full-contact Olympic-style sparring, advanced self-defence and the black belt patterns.
Which belts share a class depends on each school’s timetable. Belt tests are held regularly at every school.

Is it right for my child?
For shy kids, busy kids and everyone in between
Taekwondo can give children with different personalities and needs a structured, positive place to train, including children with ADHD, children who are very active, and children who are shy or less confident. The instructors have seen many students improve their focus, confidence, discipline, listening and social skills.
Every child is different, so start with the two free classes. The instructors meet your child and tell you whether the class is the right fit.
The coaches are attentive, very supportive and motivating to my kid. The class is extremely organized (the whole Academy is, even their App) and no time is wasted at all.

The 2-month membership special includes two classes a week, and each belt group is on the timetable at least two evenings a week at every school.

Sparring is part of the program, and it builds up in steps: beginners learn the rules and drills without contact, and protective equipment comes in at the intermediate belts.
When do Little Dragons move up to this program?
Around age 7, depending on the child.
Is taekwondo safe for kids?
Classes are taught in a safe, supervised setting by instructors trained to work with children, and contact is introduced in stages as students move up.
