The program

About Teens and Adults

Teens and adults train together in the evening Teen/Adult class at each school: 45 to 60 minutes, all belts together. No experience and no particular fitness level is needed to start.

The program covers WT Taegeuk patterns, self-defence, kicking and punching combinations, sparring with equipment and more, with self-defence techniques from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Aikido and Hapkido taught with the help of law-enforcement veteran instructors. Master Shak is an 11-year veteran of the Toronto Police Service.

The classes

The program has four kinds of class: Poomse; Olympic Sparring, for red belts and up (full-contact WT Olympic-style sparring); Curriculum (kicking and punching combinations, a little kickboxing, situational awareness and footwork); and an Open Class with a little of everything, including an introduction to weapons training. Students build skills at their own pace and earn belt promotions as they go.

Competing is optional, and available

Intermediate and advanced students can compete locally, nationally and internationally, and the ones who want it get a real pathway through the High Performance team, under coaches who have competed at World Championships.

Where and when

Teen/Adult classes run Monday to Thursday at 8:00 PM in Milton (until 9:00) and Oakville (until 8:45), and Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6:30 PM in Burlington. At Oakville, Friday at 5:45 PM is a Red to Poom and Teen and Adult class, all ages.
